Darren McKean - Black Belt
Darren is one of four BJJ Black Belts and the only Gracie Barra BJJ Black Belt in Queensland. Darren started training in Victoria before moving to Queensland, he trained with Peter De Been at the club in Torquay Vic. Darren has won many National Competitions and was one of the best BJJ competitors in Australia until he retired from competition. Darren is the head trainer for BJJ at The Peter de Been Brisbane City Academy. Darren has a relaxed but effective teaching style that focuses on the principle behind the technique, this way the technique can be adapted to any students style and strengths.
Chris Nayler - Brown Belt
Chris is one of Darren McKean’ first students and has been training since Darren opened his first club in Brisbane. Chris has won many competitions including the 2007 Pan Pacific Titles in Melbourne. Chris often teaches at SASSOM passing on his knowledge & skills that he has developed over the years.
Marcus Collings - Purple Belt
Marcus is the owner of SASSOM Fitness & SASSOM Mixed Martial Arts. He is a Fourth Degree Black Belt in Zen Do Kai Martial Arts & Fourth Degree Trainer in Muay Thai. He has fought in the ring Boxing & Muay Thai Boxing. He has been training and expanding his knowledge of Martial Arts for over 18 years. Marcus has been responsible for training Correctional Officers, and Security Officers in Control & Restraint Techniques, Use Of Force, and Queensland Law. Marcus started BJJ in 2006 under the guidance of Darren McKean after he entered and won his first competition. Later in 2006 he won the QLD Open State Titles as a White Belt, and opened a Peter deBean BJJ Academy in Woolloongabba where Darren McKean is the head coach. Marcus offen takes the warm up and the first part of the class covering basic techniques.
